CHIA

CHIA began as a healthy ‘real food’ endurance sports drink, based on the foods of the greatest long distance runners; the Tarahumara Indians. We soon realised everyone can benefit from CHIA. We added anti-oxidant rich blueberries and New Zealand blackcurrants and a tropical flavour with orange and passionfruit, all combined with New Zealand apples to create three delicious flavours. 1. This was another product that just wasn’t to my taste. The flavours themselves were nice, but the drink texture is very different from the usual. Somewhat similar to runny jelly. Definitely worth trying at least once.

  2. The flavour of the drink was quite pleasant although certainly not a strong flavour, but the texture of the drink was unfortunately a little off-putting. I think this would be really nice in an edible form, for example in muffins, or cakes.

  3. The Chia drinks…..we all knew these were going to be an ‘experience’ but I don’t think anyone was quite sure what to expect. Looking at the bottles they looked intriguing and I couldn’t wait to try them. The first taste was definately interesting, the texture was a bit strange but in all honesty I LOVED them. To me the texture gave it more of a full feeling and the flavours were just awesome. My favourite was the Orange, Passionfruit and Apple, followed closely by the Blueberry and Apple. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Blackcurrant and Apple but then I’m not a fan of many Blackcurrant flavours so this definately wasn’t a reflection on the juice itself.

  4. I’m a big chia advocate for all it’s health benefits and nutritional qualities. I’m always recommending my friends etc to add chia to their cooking. I was quite excited to try these drinks; I’ve seen “pre made” chia products around, but not these. The blueberry was definitely my favourite, followed by the orange, passionfruit and apple (despite how much i dislike passionfruit, you couldnt even notice it in there) – and then the blackcurrant. The flavour itself I loved – in all juices it was a strong flavour – but not something you go “i need to water that down” – the balance of flavours was spot on (for me anyway). The drawback was more the texture for me – but given the fact it was a “chia drink” i kind of expected it. I’ve used chia a lot – and I know what hydrated chia seeds are like. To drink; It was a little strange for me, I think It’d take a bit of getting used too. I am funny with textures and foods/drinks – but I think I’d buy it if I saw it – maybe not as an every day drink; but I imagine on a hot sunny day – it’d be perfect. Especially being that I’m not a big eater over summer, I imagine a chia drink would be really good – nutrition wise.

  5. I absolutely loved the flavour of these drinks. Every single one of them. They were absolutely delicious. However the texture of the drinks was something i didnt enjoy and could not quite get over. Unfortunetly this stopped me enjoying the drink.

  6. The flavour was very nice, the texture was different… I actually liked them though and would drink them again now that I know what to expect. Its like a drink and a snack in one 🙂

  7. WELL!! These are different aren’t they 🙂
I have to admit I saw the bits left over in someone’s glass and had to ask “what the hell is that??” It looked like someone had spilt sago into a fruit juice.
However the flavours of all three of these juices are terrific, good strong flavours without being overpowering( my personal favourite is the black currant) and the bottles are the perfect size to satisfy a thirst without feeling like you need more or trying to figure out what to do with the rest.
THE TEXTURE! This is where things get interesting, one person described it as being like runny jelly, however I think it’s more of a tapioca or sago type of texture, almost like little jelly balls in the drink. You know they’re there, you can feel them but they aren’t solid in anyway.
I really enjoyed these drinks, texture and all and would buy them again, plus the benefits of Chia are well documented and if I can do something healthy for myself and enjoy it at the same time so much the better 🙂

  8. Wow – what an experience.
First time trying Chia seeds in a drink…..
Not a fan of the Orange, Passionfruit and Apple, but enjoyed the Blueberry and Apple & the Blackcurrant and Apple happily have those two again.
