  1. I’m sure I could find some time to give this a read.

  2. Robot Overlords is a great alternative to the popular zombie survival tales that are currently rather popular. It is aimed at a young adult audience but also serves as an easy casual read for an adult. There is very little ‘adult’ content beyond the odd swearword and one or two references to the act of sex (but doesn’t actually contain any sex) so is fairly safe for teen reading.

The book focusses on the aftermath of humanity having lost the fight with an invasion of alien robots. It gives the reader a ‘from the beginning’ look at being on the losing side of war, the psychological effects of long term confinement and how hope plays an important role in staying sane in such a situation. The main characters experience a fair amount of development through a relatively short book (the book covers a few years of time) but it does feel like there is very little ‘progress’ for about the first half of the book.

After the first half though the pace really picks up until everything builds to a fairly satisfying ending. There is also a loose suggestion of a sequel. Overall the book was a pleasant read, not as gripping as say ‘The Hunger Games’ but it certainly had its moments and is worth a read between other series (or while waiting for the next book release for your current series.)

    I’d say about a 7/10.
