When you’re blending ingredients for cake mixtures, meringues or soups wouldn’t it be wonderful to take the guesswork out of speed selection? The Colour Control 3-in-1 Stick Mixer works like no other. Settings have been simplified using a unique light ring that changes colour at 4 different speeds – each one corresponding to a different food type:

  1. Firstly, thanks for the chance to review Russell Hobbs Colour Control 3 in 1 Stick Mixer.

On unpacking the box I found the following:
    The main ‘stick’.
    A whisk attachment.
    A 750ml chopping bowl.
    A chopping blade and
    A 1 Litre beaker.

On the front of the ‘stick’ is a sticker with directions on choosing a speed approiate to the task, numbered 1 – 4. Number 1 for soups, 2 for whisking, 3 for chopping and 4 for other. The number is selected by turning a small dial on the front of the stick. There is also a strip light that matches with the task.

The very first thing I tried was the chopping blade. We have an abundance of basil in the garden and I’ve been chopping and freezing in ice cube trays ready for winter use. Normally not a job I enjoy doing – it takes ages to do and seems to leave bits of basil all over the kitchen.
Although I knew using a machine would be quicker, I didn’t hold out much hope that the basil would be chopped properly. I have used a small chopping appliance before with basil and it wasn’t successful.
However, this machine produced perfectly chopped basil. No large missed bits and no squished bits. Perfect!

Next, using the same blade, I tried chopping onions. I chopped them into quarters first and again – perfectly chopped!

Moving on to the whisk attachment, I popped 3 eggs into the 1 Litre beaker. After approximately 15 seconds of whisking – done! Another success.

Earlier I had roasted 4 cups of tomatoes and they were sitting on the bench waiting to be blended. I placed them in the 1 Litre beaker and selected number 4 on the dial. In very little time I had a beaker full of sauce for spag bol.

The final thing I tried was my after exercise protein drink. I used protein powder, banana, LSA and milk. I wasn’t too sure how smooth it would be, but it turned out great, not a lump of banana at all.

Both the chopping bowl and the 1 Litre beaker have a rubber base to stop them slipping around on the bench while mixing. They can be quickly removed and used as lids – very cleverly thought out and very handy!

All the pieces were quickly washed in the sink with no problems.

The sticker to choose the speed was very useful, it’s clear and concise.
The strip light which lights up to correspond with the number selected does seem a bit superfluous though.

The only criticism is the dial to select the task number. It’s easy and quick to move, but almost impossible to see the numbers unless you are under the kitchen window. Definitely needs improving.
I couldn’t see the number, so I had to move it one way until I knew it was on number 1, then click though, counting, from there.

I would give a score of 9/10 – if the dial numbering could be improved, I’d give a 10.
All in all a fabulous appliance – I would highly recommend this to everyone.

  2. **Update**

Nearly 2 years later and I’m still using this – one of the best and most used things in my kitchen!

    Highly recommend this!
