Spilt Milk Yoga is a companion guide for mothers who want to experience the happiness, peace and purpose available in each moment, and who want to be more present and connected to themselves and their children.
Author Cathryn Monro combines personal experience, honesty and humour to acknowledge the moments when motherhood stretches us to the edges of our tolerance, patience, anger and exhaustion and asks: “Will motherhood ruin my life?” “What happened to my body and my career?” “How do I achieve anything?” “Am I doing it right?” “Whose anger is this?” “Is an ordinary life good enough?”
Spilt Milk Yoga approaches motherhood as a path offering life’s richest and most profound lessons on love, acceptance and joy. Through guided self-inquiry the challenges become opportunities to grow, not in spite of motherhood, but because of it.

Cathryn Monro is an artist, writer, educator, and mother of two. She graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland with a BFA and later an MFA before continuing a thirty-year career as a professional artist. Her interest in creativity and learning led her to teach in tertiary education for over twenty years. With further training as an actor, psychodramatist, and group worker, Cathryn has applied the power of group learning and the formation of group culture to her work in education and government. Over the last ten years, informed by her experiences in creative practice as an artist and actor, Cathryn has developed a group learning practice aptly named “Practice Process.” Using interactive methods to facilitate the development of healthy group culture and collaborative learning practices, she enables group members to connect to their learning and to each other, building stronger, more meaningful working relationships. A common thread through Cathryn’s work is a passion for inquiry, engaged education, and a valuing of processes that meet and develop our human capacity for connection. These find expression in her book Spilt Milk Yoga, a book that connects mothers to their joy, purpose, and development amidst the daily challenges of motherhood.
