Last night my friend Julie and I had the opportunity to attend an event at Claudelands called “What a Woman Wants” which was hosted by Lisa O’Neill
Based around the fact that women want to look their best and have the self knowledge that they look fabulous, but that they can be unsure on just how to achieve that ‘look’. Lets face it, we all come in different shapes and sizes and it can be quite confusing when you want to look a certain way but have no idea where to start.
I put myself into the group because I’m afraid when it comes to clothes, makeup, hair – I’m a style virgin
We arrived at the event having an idea of what the event was about, but not really having a clue how it was all going to work. I had wanted to attend in the past but budgets and time commitments just didn’t allow for it so I was excited about a night out with a friend where I might just learn something (or several somethings)
$30 for the ticket meant that you had a great night out, you received a $20 Farmers Gift Card, got to share a glass of wine (or 2) with like minded people, had some tasty nibbles, AND $10 from each ticket was making its way to Plunket, so you also had the knowledge that you were contributing to a great cause.

We walked in, received our complimentary glass of wine and made our way into the event. Before us lay an array of tables that were already fast filling up with women from all ages, ready to see what Lisa had to offer.
Each table had a selection of nibbles that were just asking to be tasted….so of course we obliged, and definately weren’t disappointed. It was a lovely starter to what was going to be an eye-opening night
7.30pm – The fun began….whatever I was expecting, it wasn’t this !!!
Lisa opens your eyes, your mind and your heart to the possibility that you can be YOU…….but with sparkle !! She makes you realise that while the responsibilities of life may remain, it doesn’t mean you can’t look fabulous while you’re dealing with them. Lisa is an absolutely beautiful woman, but while she is gorgeous on the outside, there is an inner beauty and LIFE that also shines through, that makes you want to smile back with everything you’ve got.
While she was showing off the various items of clothing and accessories, it was done in such a way that not only did you believe in the products, but you believed in yourself and that you can look gorgeous in them, and when you’re a tired Mum, that’s a pretty amazing thing to achieve.
Lisa presents everything in a light hearted way, with a sense of humour that will have you laughing so hard you’ll have moments with tears in your eyes, but there are also moments when she voices those words that you’ve felt yourself thinking, and makes you realise that we are all worth making an effort for.
It’s scary that we can create ourselves in an image to keep up with others, or to be what we think other people think we should be, but that we don’t spend enough time creating something that we are happy with in ourselves. We need to learn to be more concerned with bringing life and fun into our own lives, and to be able to look in the mirror and tell ourselves “Damn you look good today” …..and BELIEVE it !!!
So if you have the opportunity to attend one of Lisa’s events, take the opportunity with both hands and an open mind and have a great time.
Live life, love life and if you have a tiara……….wear it as often as possible !!
